Nothing says fall quite like pears! This season, why not try these spiced red wine stewed pears with a dollop of mascarpone cream?

How to Make Red Wine Poached Pears

Step 1  Simmer red wine, brown sugar, and spices in a medium-sized saucepan.

Step 2  Add peeled pears to the red wine mixture and simmer for 20-30 minutes, until softened

Step 3  Once cooked, let the pears cool down in the red-wine mixture.

Step 4  Make the mascarpone cream: whisk heavy cream, fold in mascarpone, refrigerate until ready to serve.

Step 5  Before serving, simmer the red wine mixture until thickened and syrup is formed. Serve cooled pears in red wine syrup, with a scoop of mascarpone cream, a dusting of ground cinnamon, and crushed walnuts.

Making Ahead

These stewed pears are perfect for making ahead since they require cooling time if served cold. You can stew the pears up to 2 days ahead, cover, and refrigerate until read to serve. The mascarpone cream can be made ahead and stored overnight in a refrigerator (covered). Store leftovers in a refrigerator (covered) for up to 2 days.
